What does a therapeutic art session look like?
Art therapy is an alternate therapy that allows people to express themselves during the application of visual arts in a therapeutic context. Clients are given an activity during the therapeutic art session that is tailored towards their mental and/or emotional needs. Although these sessions seem enjoyable due to the artistic nature, they can sometimes be painful as well. The therapeutic portion of art therapy results in clients having to often be faced with challenging things about themselves that they may have been suppressing such as trauma. This is important to therapeutic art, because it is apart of the healing process. The healing process consists of pulling out the pain, or trauma within a person and then catering to it to create a safe and healthy environment to heal.
In addition to handling suppressed emotions, trauma, and thoughts, Art therapy has been shown to help reduce stress, boost confidence, reduce anxiety, and increase mental functioning.
Due to COVID-19, all therapeutic art sessions are being completed over face time or zoom until further notice. After the initial consultation, the client will receive an art box containing all necessary supplies for their sessions. Once the client receives their custom box, we are able to schedule their first appointment and create an 8-12 week program for them.
